During their talks, Biden mentioned China’s influence in the South China Sea, COVID-19, and renewable energy as topics. Marcos was thanked for opposing Russia’s war in Ukraine.
According to Marcos, the United States plays a critical role in maintaining peace in our region, particularly with the Philippines.

Biden and Marcos also discussed the U.S.-Philippines relationship, including economic development, security, and human rights. The two leaders agreed to continue working together on issues of common concern, including countering terrorism and extremism. They also discussed issues related to the South China Sea dispute, which has been a source of tension in the region for some time now.
Because of the need to prepare for such a scenario, the U.S. is eager to facilitate greater access to bases in the Philippines.
