COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s cricket board on Wednesday said it had invited the sport’s world governing body to investigate allegations about Pak Srilanka match Fixing occurred during Pakistan’s July tour of the island nation, which led to allegations of match-fixing.

There had  allegations that the two-match Test series complete by the Sri Lankan team  fixed in parliament a few weeks earlier after opposition lawmaker Nalin Bandara alleged that the match  fixed.

A board member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked the head of its anti-corruption unit, Alex Marshall, to visit Sri Lanka and undertake an investigation into the allegations, which it stated had caused “enormous reputational damage ”.

There was no doubt that Sri Lanka Cricket  committed to the integrity of the game and believed that a probe by the ICC was “the appropriate course of action to take given the recent allegations against it”, according to a statement by the board.

Sri Lanka’s national cricket team has plagued with allegations of corruption

Over the past several years, Sri Lanka’s national cricket team has plagued with allegations of corruption, infighting, and insubordination.

It has  reported that an ex-sports minister, Harin Fernando, claimed the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarded Sri Lanka as one of the most corrupt nations under its jurisdiction.

In the past, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, one of the predecessors of Colombo’s present Prime Minister, told Parliament last year. That match-fixing was rampant in the country.

At the peak of Sri Lanka’s economic crisis earlier this year, when the country faced months of political unrest, power outages, and nationwide fuel shortages. The series against Pakistan played at Galle during the height of this crisis.

In another statement by Shah Abdul Mohi, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official had stated that the PCB would not be able to comment on a matter involving the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. And its investigation into the cricketers of the host nation.

Appointing Alex Marshall, the general manager of the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption unit, to investigate the allegation of match-fixing made by opposition leader Nalin Bandara. During the July Test series has sanctioned by the Sri Lankan cricket board.

Pak Vs Srilanka match Fixing- PCB denied any contact with SL Board 

According to the newly discovered allegations, the PCB official denied they had any contact with the SL Board or the International Criminal Court.

The International Cricket Council and the Sri Lanka Cricket Board have not contacted us regarding allegations that have been made by an opposition leader regarding the 1-1 draw between the two countries in the Test series. We have not contacted by anyone related to the recent allegations. 

It is therefore not in our position to comment on this until and unless we are approach. This  the response given by a PCB official when contact by a reporter.

It was stated by the official that ICC Anti-Corruption Unit officials keep a close eye on international matches these days and have always done so in the past. In order to safeguard all international matches from any corruption, the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit keeps a close eye on them. 

During the July series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, they were there, and nothing happened. Not a single eyebrow raised. There is no problem with the Sri Lankan Board seeking to investigate their players for COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s cricket board on Wednesday said it had invited the sport’s world governing body to investigate allegations about Pak Srilanka match Fixing.  If that is what they wish to do. 

I would like to point out that the PCB has nothing to do with this as it has something to do with the SL cricketers. Unless the SL Board or ICC approach us, we will not react unless the SL Board or ICC approach us first. I am not aware of anything like that so far.”
