In the latest raid on fake World Cup trophies hitting the market ahead of the tournament, Qatari authorities said Wednesday they had seized 144 counterfeit trophies.
The ministry of interior said officers conducted the operation “based on information about a website that promotes cups that mimic the World Cup’s shape.”
The company released a photo showing the 144 life-sized trophies arrange on a floor, stating that “further legal procedures will be follow”.
As of Monday evening, there is no information on where the trophies found, nor have any suspects arrest, according to the ministry.
Warnings to prevent world cup trophies
In recent weeks, the FIFA, the body that governs the sport of football, as well as Qatari authorities have intensify warnings to prevent world cup fakes from distributed or bought.
The Qatari authorities warn drivers that using an official World Cup logo on a car registration plate was illegal after special plates auctioned online in June.
In the previous month, police able to arrest five people after they found to be selling counterfeit clothes emblazoned with the World Cup logo.
The raid carried out by the team at the end of the year in a Dubai-based factory as they were illegally using the World Cup brand to produce perfume in bottles.
