In an interview on Radio Pakistan, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the international community must help flood-hit Pakistan overcome its challenges.

Mr. Sharif visited the National Flood Response and Coordination Center in Islamabad, where he spoke to reporters.

During the briefing, Guterres received a detailed report about flood relief efforts. During his briefing, the UN Secretary-General said that he was impressed by the work being done by local and international volunteers. He added that he had spoken to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif earlier in the day and offered condolences for those who have lost their lives as well as assistance from the United Nations.

Despite its low carbon emissions, Pakistan is one of the most vulnerable hotspots in the world to climate change as a result of rising sea levels and changing precipitation patterns.

Guterres urged developed countries to drastically cut emissions and provide aid to countries like Pakistan that are rebuilding.

Pakistani officials have expressed sympathy for the millions of Afghan refugees living in their country, which has earned them goodwill.

The report stated that the UN secretary-general will mobilize all available resources to support Pakistan in its time of need.

During his remarks, the Prime Minister thanked Guterres for being a sympathetic listener.

The federal, provincial, and military governments are jointly providing relief to 33 million people.

The government’s rescue and relief efforts are well underway, the prime minister said. Refugees have been relocated to safe areas where they receive food and shelter; however, significant challenges remain.

The prime minister praised all the countries that have contributed.

Shehbaz, Pakistan’s prime minister, has stated that the recent floods are a clear sign of climate change.

While Pakistan has begun rebuilding and restoring itself after the devastating earthquake, it needs help from international organizations in order to recover completely.

Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan’s Planning and Development Minister, said that a comprehensive assessment of flood damage will soon be completed. The floods have adversely affected the economy, he added.

Moreover, Iqbal said that “we are planning to build a resilient infrastructure.”

The Secretary-General briefed him on the flood situation and ongoing rescue efforts.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Islamabad today on a trip designed to call attention to the flood crisis around the world.

In a tweet, Guterres expressed his “solidarity with the Pakistani people.”

I ask the international community to give Pakistan whatever support it needs in responding to this tragedy.
