Surety bonds were required for PTI leaders IHC orders police not to harass citizens ‘unnecessarily’ ahead of the PTI March.

PTI leaders ordered to submit surety bonds were questioned, and the Islamabad police reserved its right to harass citizens “unnecessarily”.

Athar Minallah, chief justice of the IHC, heard a petition filed by former advocate general Niazullah Niazi against police harassment. According to the state council, the inspector-general had made a list of PTI leaders who were asked for surety bonds.

Objecting to the police officials’ request for surety bonds, Justice Minallah said this was harassment. Do you think this is the right way to proceed? In his statement to the police, the CJ mentioned that he was a former advocate general.

The police personnel further stated that the report was given to the police by the IG after having been made by the Special Branch. The chief justice inquired whether sub-inspector Azmat Bajwa had called the petitioner to request surety bonds.

Because of potential disturbances of peace during the march, the police requested surety bonds during the trial.

Moreover, a magistrate, not the police, could order surety bonds, according to the petitioner’s lawyer.

The State Council must satisfy the court at the next hearing regarding the list prepared by the Special Branch. According to him, the surety bond procedure adopted by the police was illegal.

So, it failed to satisfy the court regarding taking surety bonds by summoning citizens to the police station after PTI won by-polls. Bani Gala police station officials were angry with the IHC for asking for surety bonds without assuring their legality.

In addition, they reassured the court that the police would provide the list to the court at the following hearing. The petitioner and other citizens were restrained from being harassed by the police until the next hearing was held.

Special Branch

PTI leaders were required to submit surety bonds before the PTI march, according to Niazullah Niazi’s complaint to the IHC.

According to Niazi, he got a call from Bani Gala police station asking for an affidavit of peaceful conduct.
