KARACHI/MULTAN: PPP won two National Assembly seats, Karachi-Malir and Multan, while PTI suffered a significant loss in the by-elections held on Sunday for eight NA and three provincial assembly seats.

According to unofficial results, Syed Musa Gillani of the PPP, the son of the late prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani, won Multan’s NA-157 district with 79,743 votes.

The unofficial results from all 264 voting places in the seat show that Mehar Bano Qureshi of the PTI, Musa’s opponent, came in second.

Qureshi received 59,993 votes, handing PTI an unexpected defeat by losing Multan, a hotbed of political strife between the Gilani and Qureshi clans.

Mehar Bano thanked her followers on Twitter after admitting defeat.

“I’d like  to thank my NA-157 family. You can win and lose in life, but I’ll always prioritize [people’s] well-being and continue to [serve] my halqa and party with honesty and integrity “She composed.

In the meanwhile, Abdul Hakeem Baloch of the PPP beat Imran Khan of the PTI by winning the NA-237 Malir-II seat with 32,567 votes. Baloch received over 10,000 more votes than Khan, who received 22,493.

PTI Imran Khan is ranked 22493 and PPP Abdul Hakeem Baloch is ranked 32567.

PPP Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari congratulated the two politicians on Twitter after their victory.

“Goodbye PTI, Karachi [and] Multan! Congratulations to Musa Gillani and Hakeem Baloch for beating Imran Khan in the 2018 election from seats he had stolen, he said.

Yousaf thanked PPP for giving his son the ticket during a news conference after the preliminary results were announced, and he commended PML-N and the coalition alliance for their support of Musa.

The former prime minister stated, “I am grateful to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, and PDM chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Gillani also attacked PTI Chairman Khan, claiming that his narrative was to blame for the nation’s unrest.

Imran Khan retire from other seats?

He asked the people of South Punjab to reject Imran Khan’s argument, asking, “What’s the sense of contesting elections when he [Imran Khan] has to retire from other seats?”

It was a battle against Khan’s narrative, he said, not a war between the Gillani and Qureshi clans.

The former premier said that politicians should put the good of the nation ahead of the interests of their own party.
