It announced that career diplomat Mumtaz Zahra Baloch has appointed as the new spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as an official notification said on Friday. She replaces Asim Iftikhar, who served for nine years in the position.

In a notification, the Foreign Office announced that it had appointed Rambaloch – who is currently serving as the additional secretary for Asia and Pacific at the Department of Foreign Affairs. Moreover, Saima Syed, who currently serves as the director-general (strategic communication division) of the organization, has appointed as the deputy spokesperson following her promotion to the position.

It is important to note that Baloch is a Pakistani career diplomat who has previously served as the ambassador to Korea (2020-2021), deputy chief of mission at the Beijing Embassy (2015-2020), counselor to the Washington DC Embassy (2006-2011), the second secretary to the Pakistan Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva (1999-2002), and the adviser to the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva (2006-2011).

During her tenure at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she has served in various capacities, including director (America), director (security council and human rights in the Office of the Foreign Secretary), and director (strategic planning) in the Office of the Foreign Secretary.

His educational background includes a Master’s degree in Physics from Punjab University, a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, USA, and a PhD in Public Administration from the prestigious Ecole Nationale d’Administration in France.

Assembled by Philippe Franc, the Director of State Protocol of the French government, Itikhar submitted his credentials to the French director of state protocol earlier this week to make his debut as Pakistan’s ambassador to France.
