The Pakistan Cricket Board declared that it was “surprised and saddened” by the ACC President Jay Shah’s remarks.

 

Jay Shah’s stated yesterday that India will not be going to Pakistan for the next 2023 Asia Cup and that the competition should take place in a neutral location.

 

“It is not unusual for the Asia Cup to be held in a neutral location, therefore we have made the decision not to visit Pakistan. I’ve determined that we’ll play at a neutral location, “said ACC President.

 

The PCB stated in a formal press release today that the Board of the Asian Cricket Council and it were not consulted before the comments were made since they might have long-term effects.

Remarks by Mr. Jay Shah’s

“The PCB has observed yesterday’s remarks by Mr. Jay Shah, ACC President, regarding the relocation of the Asia Cup to a neutral venue with surprise and dismay, “Read the declaration.

 

“The statements were made without any discussion or consultation with the Asian Cricket Council Board or the Pakistan Cricket Board, which was hosting the tournament, and without any consideration of their possible long-term consequences or impacts.

“Mr. Shah’s statement of shifting the ACC Asia Cup has clearly been done unilaterally. He presided over the ACC meeting during which Pakistan was granted the ACC Asia Cup. With an overwhelming amount of support and response from the ACC Board Members.

 

The Asian Cricket Council was established in September 1983. As a unified Asian cricket organization to preserve the interests of its Members and organize, develop, and promote the game of cricket in Asia. This is in opposition to its founding principles and ethos.

 

According to earlier reports, the BCCI was willing to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup the following year. If the Indian government gave its approval.

ICC tournaments

The position, however, was altered when Shah publicly said that the competition should take place in a neutral location.  Most likely the United Arab Emirates. According to the PCB, Shah’s remarks may have an effect on Pakistan’s participation. In the World Cup in India and other ICC tournaments there the following year.

 

The statement claims that the overall impact of these comments “had the potential to polarize. The Asian and international cricketing communities, and perhaps damage Pakistan’s visit to India for the 2023. ICC Cricket World Cup will be followed by further ICC Events in India throughout the 2024–2031 cycle.

 

In an effort to set up an urgent meeting on the crucial topic, PCB has also written to the ACC.

 

“The ACC has not yet publicly discussed the ACC President’s statement with the PCB. As a result, the PCB has requested in writing to the ACCl that its Board hold an urgent meeting. As soon as is logistically practicable to discuss this crucial and delicate issue.
