In Punjab, women have made the most complaints against harassment, violence, kidnapping, and murder this year, 15,750.

As a result, Sindh has become notorious for increasing honour killing cases with 111 such cases in 2021 and 88 cases in the current year. Nevertheless, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa managed to provide 1,112 troubled women with their services this year, according to data.

According to official data, women in Punjab made 15,750 complaints during the first eight months (January-August) of this year. The most common complaints made by Punjabi women during this time span were related to employment and health. The number of calls received in this regard was approximately 7,000. Over 5,914 complaints were filed about harassment, social media, and violence against women in Punjab.

Harassment reports from punjab

There were over 380 complaints of kidnapping, abduction, rape, and murder from women. The number of complaints regarding property matters, including inheritance, stood at 1,424. A total of 1,050 complaints were filed by women in Punjab about divorce, Khula, maintenance, and custody. There is a helpline number 1043 where women can register complaints in Punjab. Violence, family issues, rape, murder, harassment, abduction, and violence were reported to the Punjab helpline.

A total of 1,112 services were provided to women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by Helpline between January and September 2022. During the first seven months of this year, the Helpline assisted 249 women from KPK with legal advice and counseling. 

In addition, 121 women received psychological counseling and 456 women were educated and informed about their rights. 286 women received shelter or were protected by police for their safety. A total of 105 cases were received from KPK in 2018. 

Gender-based violence

Gender-based violence cases were reported in 89 cases in 2019 and 165 in 2020, including physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and social abuse.  Helpline received 70 cases pertaining to issues faced by women in KPK in 2021.

In total, the National Women Helpline Centre (1099) received 709 complaints. Of these complaints, only seven were about harassment, and interestingly, all seven were made in Punjab. Women across Pakistan had filed 1,890 complaints with the National Women Helpline (1099) last year. The National Helpline Centre (1099) received 1,367 complaints last year from women in Punjab alone.

The Sindh Suhai Organization supports women and girls who are victims of abuse, harassment, and honour killing. Since the beginning of this year, 12 women have been murdered for honour in Ghotki Sindh.

 There are 11 women murdered in Kashmore, seven in Jaika Babad and Shakarpur, and 40 in Dosri Izla. In Sindh alone, 88 women are murdered for honour this year, according to Sindh Suhai Organization data.

As a result of this, a total of 111 women were murdered for honour in Sindh in the year 2021, which is a significant increase. 142 women were raped or attempted to be raped, according to the Women Protection Cell Sindh’s 2021 annual report.

 During 2021, 1,288 cases of violence against women were reported in the Karachi region. The Hyderabad region reported 2,447 cases of violence against women, Larkana had 427, Mirpur Khas had 360, and Sukkur had 1,450 cases.
