NCOC on Saturday said that the “new variant” of Coronavirus spreading in China and also have Covid threat to Pakistan

Despite the lift in lockdowns in China and the increase in free travel, Pakistan faces a potential threat if the variant enters the country, the nerve center for anti-Covid measures indicated.

 


Coronavirus outbreaks in China are the result of a subversion of the highly infectious Omicron strain: BF.7 or BA.5.2.1.7.

“ The Chinese subvariant BF.7 is the most capable of infecting humans. Furthermore, it the fastest subvariant to transmit, with the shortest incubation period, and a greater tendency to infect people who have previously infected or vaccinated against Covid. As the report noted, its symptoms are similar to those of the other variants of the Omicron virus.

Ahead of the launch of its response plan, the NCOC states that the country “fully prepared” to combat and control any variant of Covid-19. It adds that in the past, the country has clamped down on Covid-19 when it was timely.

According to the press release, the variant posed a low threat as a result of the vaccination campaign, which completely inoculated 90 percent of the eligible population.

The NCOC added that at least 95 pc of the population had received at least one vaccination shot as part of its vaccination program.

It has also been reported by the National Institute of Health that 13 new cases of Covid-19 and one death have been reported to the Department of Public Health in the last 24 hours, while the positivity rate stood at 0.3 percent.

A further 17 patients treated in the critical care unit, according to the report.

A few weeks ago, following widespread protests, the world’s most populous country began dismantling its “zero-Covid” regime of lockdowns and testing, which had been largely keeping the threat of the virus at bay for more than three years, at a cost that was extremely high in economic and psychological terms.

Hospitals scrambled for beds and blood, pharmacies scrambled for drugs, and authorities raced to build special clinics as a result of the abrupt change in policy.

A million deaths attributed to Covid could occur in China next year, according to experts.
