The Giro d’Italia will be held almost entirely on the Italian mainland next year.

A ceremony in Milan on Monday unveiled the route for the Italian Grand Tour in 2023. Rome will be its destination, as announced last month.

On Stage 13, the Giro will cross into Switzerland briefly, with an uphill finish in Crans Montana, but not Sardinia or Sicily. The race’s highest point is traditionally known as the “Cima Coppi” (Coppi peak), and the riders will climb it along with the Croix de Coeur that day.

Final week of the race

In the final week of the race, there are seven mountain stages – most of which culminate in a dramatic uphill finish – and eight sprint stages.

This race looks interesting from start to finish. Jai Hindley is still deciding whether or not to defend his title next year, though the route is fantastic.

Over a distance of 3,449 kilometers (2,143 miles), riders will climb 51,300 meters (168,000 feet) of vertical elevation.

In Hindley’s opinion, starting the Giro with No. 1 on the back would be pretty sweet. I haven’t thought too much about what next year holds since it’s still early October and the season just ended.

I think it also depends on what the Tour de France route is like. However, the route that was announced tonight is also pretty interesting, and it will definitely be challenging.”

In 2023, the following aspects will be considered:

THE TIMING IS ESSENTIAL

Time trialing will be featured in the 2023 Giro for the first time since 2013.

In addition to Stage 9 from Savignano sul Rubicone to Cesena, there is a challenging climb up Monte Lussari on the penultimate stage.

A time trial holds bad memories for Hindley, who lost the 2020 Giro by 39 seconds after the race-ending time trial. Despite wearing the pink jersey, he finished second to Tao Geoghegan Hart in the final stage.

Hindley laughed and said, “I’d like three more.”. However, I don’t organize the race, so I just go with the flow. Even so, I still finished second in three time trials in 2020. I think I’m a bit better at it now.

As a result, I’ll continue to work on it and make it a strength. There’s no doubt it’s not ideal for me, but you can’t always get what you want.”

DOLOMITES WITH DECISION

An action-packed, demanding final week will likely decide the race in the Dolomites Range.

It will start with a 5,000 meter elevation gain stage with three of the last six stages rated five stars, including the penultimate day’s time trial.

A total of five classified climbs are included in Stage 19, including the Passo Giau, Passo Tre Croci, and the finish up the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

“I think Stage 19 is the hardest, followed by the time trial, finishing on the climb there, I think it will be really tough,” Hindley said. “Run out of legs on the final TT and you could lose the race. Three weeks after those two stages, I think that’ll be crucial.

In the Giro, every year it’s the last few stages where guys can fall apart, and I expect this to be no exception. You either have it or you don’t in the last few days.”

Giro will FINISH

Rome will host the Giro for the fifth time in its 106-year history.

Ten laps will be completed on an 11.5-kilometer (7-mile) circuit through the streets of the capital.

In the shadow of the Colosseum, the route passes the Altare della Patria, the Capitoline Hill, and the Circus Maximus.
